Cheryl Courtney Evans (above) just wrote a really great piece in TransGriot about the challenges of resisting shame and cultivating pride in black trans & gender non conforming communities.
Folks might not know though that Ms Cheryl has been doing this organizing work with trans and gender conforming people in Atlanta for decades with TILTT and is a founding member (along with Miss Major, Dean Spade, Mya Vasquez, Morgan Bassachis, Lala, Stefanie, Darby and Joshua Holiday pictured here) of the Transforming Justice Alliance, which came together in 2007 to organize around our community: low income trans & gender non conforming people of color. We did this in order to abolish the prison industrial complex! I took the photo of Cherly when we gathered in Atlanta this fall to strategize our next moves. To learn more check out IN SOLIDARITY
